PREFACE

As all the Cooperative Banks in India are well aware that after NAFSCOB launched the All India Mutual Arrangement Scheme (AIMAS) way back in 1965 slowly the State Cooperative Banks and then the District Central Banks and the Urban Cooperative Banks have become members of AIMAS and over the last three decades have built up a good rapport with each other and have also improved the DD business.

Further, the sustained efforts made by the Federation to mobilise all the operational problems, suggestions for improvement of AIMAS etc. have really yielded good results and hence the Federation was able to bring out a  Manual on AIMAS.

In addition to producing this AIMAS Manual the Federation has taken a policy decision to conduct Annual Workshops on AIMAS since 1991 and this has really paved the way for the member SCBs to come out with various suggestions for modification of the AIMAS Manual and thereby ensure smooth functioning of AIMAS.

In the last few workshops many SCBs were insisting on developing a Common Cypher Code System as an additional security measure for DD business under AIMAS.

Accordingly, NAFSCOB had constituted a committee with the following officers in December 1998 for developing a appropriate Cypher Code System.

1. Shri P. K. Soni,  General Manager, Gujarat SCB

2. Shri M. G. Suratwale, Chief Officer, Maharashtra SCB

3. Shri D.G.Name Officer, Maharashtra SCB

4. Shri K. B. Hatgar, Manager, Karnataka SCB

5. Shri Mukesh Agarwal, Incharge (AIMAS), Rajasthan SCB

6. Shri G. Chandrasekhar, Asstt. Manager, Tamil Nadu SCB

This committee has on 30th August 1999 finalized a Common Cypher Code System which was also approved by the Advisory Committee.

Preparation of the Cypher Code involves very careful arrangement of Key Numbers in the labels etc. and the Cypher Code Committee has really shown their expertise and skills in this area. We express our deep sense of gratitude and appreciation to the members of this Cypher Code Committee and also for the cooperation and guidance extended by the Advisory Committee more particularly to Shri B. Kanakasabai, the then General Manager, The Tamil Nadu State Apex Cooperative Bank Ltd.
