Chapter 4

4.1     Other Instructions

Discrepancy in Cypher Code or absence of Cypher Code on a DD will not make such a DD invalid and the paying bank will have to honour such DDs if they satisfy other conditions recorded in various other chapters in this Manual.

4.2     NAFSCOB will supply two separate sets of key numbers which will be as below

A four digit key number relating to member banks of AIMAS which will be a permanent number which will have to be used against Item I (refer to example in earlier pages) while calculating the Cypher Code.

Another set of key numbers from which the values for day, date, Month and Amount of DD will have to be picked up and recorded against II & III as shown in the example for calculating the Cypher Code.

4.3       Safe Custody of Cypher Code and Key Numbers

The Key Numbers for Day, Date, Month and Amount supplied by NAFSCOB and the method of working out/calculating Cypher Code will have to be ALWAYS KEPT UNDER THE PERSONAL SAFE CUSTODY of the “identified officer” in H.O. as well as AIMAS member branch.
Whenever the “identified officer” retires/is transferred/leaves the job these Cypher Code papers/file must be handed over to the incumbent who will necessarily be trained by the respective H.O. of SCB/CCB/CUB.
