Chapter 2

2.1       Mode of Arriving Cypher Code

For working out/arriving the Cypher Code, specific numeric values, as in the set/list of key numbers supplied by NAFSCOB, have been assigned/reckoned for the following items/characters in the AIMAS Demand Draft. Similarly by separate key numbers for each AIMAS member bank have been allotted (vide Appendix I) by NAFSCOB which will be communicated to all member banks by the respective SCB. This key number is called “Issuing Bank Key Number” and is different from the code number of the bank already fixed for AIMAS DDs. This “Issuing Bank Key Number” will be a fixed one and will not vary.

Paise column should be ignored while arriving Cypher Code.

Then after putting the values for all the above FIVE ITEMS (under I, II & III above) final total figure will have to be arrived. This final total number is called the Cypher Code for that particular DD issued out that particular day.

Please note that if any one of the item (under I, II & III above) of the DD is changed, the value of the Cypher Code will also get changed since the numeric values furnished in the set/list supplied by NAFSCOB are unique in nature.

2.1.2     Calculation of Cypher Code

To illustrate how to calculate/workout/arrive the Cypher Code three examples are given below and the values for this purpose have been taken from the DUMMY SET OF KEY NUMBERS.

All the three DDs have been issued on 20th August, 1999 by Andaman & Nicobar SCB on Maharashtra SCB. (Specimen DDs are shown in Appendix 2)

Example 1.            A DD for Rs.1,13,120/- issued on 20-08-1999.
